Located in the Four Corners region of Southwest Colorado, Majestic Dude Ranch sits just outside the quaint town of Mancos, nestled below the pristine La Plata Mountains of the San Juan Range. We’re only five miles from endless National Forests and adjacent to Jackson Lake and Mancos State Park, making our location ideal for dark sky mountain views. Southwest Colorado offers truly majestic scenery, with everything from sweeping mountain vistas to stunning high desert landscapes.

Getting Here

Although we’re tucked away near a tiny town, Majestic Dude Ranch is centrally located in the Four Corners region, offering travelers easy access. We’re just a short drive from two local airports, with convenient flight options. Thanks to our regional location, we’re also within a day’s drive of major cities like Phoenix, Denver, Albuquerque, Salt Lake City, and even Los Angeles. Guests can choose to fly or drive — we offer free on-site parking and complimentary airport shuttle service.

Two airports are conveniently located within a 30–45 minute drive from Majestic Dude Ranch. Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) is serviced by American and United Airlines, offering multiple daily flights. The Cortez Municipal Airport (CEZ) services a small passenger flights with connections from Denver and Phoenix.

In a pinch, the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is approximately 245 miles away—a scenic 4-hour drive that connects you to the most convenient international airport for flying in and renting a car.

Durango La-Plata County Airport → 45 Miles

Cortez Municipal Airport → 27 Miles

Leave Durango and travel on US-160 W for 27 miles toward the town of Mancos, Colorado. At the stoplight, turn right onto CO-184/N. Main Street. In .3 miles, turn right onto Road 42/Hwy-42, travel 4.2 miles up the road until Road N, turn left at Road N, the entrance to Majestic Dude Ranch will be on your left in .3 miles.

Leave Cortez and travel on US-160 E for 17 miles toward the town of Mancos, Colorado. At the stoplight, turn left onto CO-184/N. Main Street, in .3 miles, turn right onto Road 42/Hwy-42, travel 4.2 miles up the road until Road N, turn left at Road N, the entrance to Majestic Dude Ranch will be on your left in .3 miles.

Leave Dolores and travel west on CO-145 for 1.5 miles, turn left onto CO-184 and travel for 17.1 miles, turn left on Road 42/Hwy-42, travel 4.2 miles up the road until Road N, turn left at Road N, the entrance to Majestic Dude Ranch will be on your left in .3 miles.

Suggested Packing List

This list includes items we’ve found that make your stay at the Ranch more comfortable – don’t worry if you forget something! We keep a small supply of personal items and toiletries on-site for your convenience. This is a suggested list. Please reach out if you have any questions. 

Jeans or Long Pants – Required for Horseback Riding 

Shorts – Great for activities other than horseback riding on hot days

T-Shirt – Perfect for warm days and activities 

Comfortable Clothing – Such as athletic wear or other breathable options

Lightweight Long-Sleeved Shirts – Layering for sun protection and cooler evenings

Sweatshirt or Light Sweater – Layer for chilly mornings and evenings

Lightweight Jacket – Layer for chilly mornings and evenings

Rain Jacket – For unpredictable mountain weather (short monsoons in late summer)

Swimsuit – Pool, hot tub, lake, or rafting

Lightweight Pajamas – Comfortable, breathable sleepwear is recommended  

Socks – Bring extra pairs for outdoor adventures and riding boots 

Belt – Optional for Horseback Riding 

Western Wear – Optional, fun for dressing the part

Cowboy Boots – Required for Horseback Riding (smooth sole & ½ inch heel; extras available to borrow) 

Sturdy Closed-Toe Shoes – Walking around the ranch

Sneakers – Sturdy and versatile for activities and leisure 

Tennis Shoes – Sturdy and versatile for activities

Hiking Boots – Optional for hiking adventures 

Sandals – Pool, hot tub, or leisure 

Outdoor Sandal – Breathable and sturdy option for warm day activities; strapped sandals for rafting

Water Shoes – Protect feet during lake activities, fishing, or rafting 

Note : If you plan on white water rafting you must wear footwear that is secured to your foot (tennis shoes/sneakers, strapped sandals or water shoes). No flip-flops or bare feet.

Cowboy Hat – Dress like a cowboy and keep the sun away 

Hat – The sun is strong at 8,000 ft Use a hat to protect yourself 

Stampeed Strings – Required if wearing a cowboy hat while riding 

Sunglasses – Protect your eyes at 8,000 ft, trust us, you’ll want them 

Sunscreen SPF 30 – 70 is recommended. Sun is extra powerful at 8,000ft

Lip Balm – Our environment is dry at 8,000 ft, trust us, you’ll need it. Extras available if needed

Waterbottle – Staying hydrated at high elevation is essential 

Bug Spray – While we do not have many bugs, if you are sensitive, it’s an extra layer of protection 

Small Backpack – Handy for carrying personal items during activities 

Gloves – Optional for Horseback Riding, ATV Tours, or Mountain Biking in cooler conditions 

Bandana or Neck Gaiter – Dust and sun protection for riding or ATV tours

Padded Shorts – Extra padding for horseback or mountain biking

Swimming Goggles – For swimming

Hiking Backpack – Child carrier for little ones hitting the trail

Bonoculars – Birding, wildlife, and sightseeing 

Headlamp or Flashlight – For dark skies and nighttime activities

Waterproof Bag or Phone Case – Protect items during lake or rafting activities

National Park Passport – If you plan on checking Mesa Verde NP off your list

Medications & Prescriptions – Bring enough for your stay; a pharmacy is located nearby in case of emergency

Tooth Brush & Paste – Extras available if needed

Deodorant – Extras available if needed

Speciality Drinks or snacks – we provide snacks, lemonade, iced tea, beer, wine, and cider – if there is something else you can’t live without, we recommend you bring it along! We can also take you to town or pick something up for you if you need it.
